Fuel tanks for cars, motorcycles, and various general-purpose machinery (agricultural machinery, garden machinery) are one of the important functional and safety components in these types of power machinery. Plastic fuel tanks are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and impact-resistant; they do not cause explosions when burned, ensuring high safety; they offer great freedom in structural design (unlike metal fuel tanks, which have strict requirements for shaping), and can fully utilize the limited space of vehicles like cars and motorcycles as well as various general-purpose machinery. Therefore, they are increasingly being used. However, ordinary HDPE fuel tanks have poor barrier performance against gasoline, leading to significant fuel leakage, which has been a major drawback hindering their widespread use. Plastic fuel tanks treated with fluorination can effectively prevent fuel (mainly gasoline) evaporation, reducing the evaporation rate by about 90%, significantly decreasing the pollution of evaporated fuel to the atmosphere, and providing considerable environmental benefits. Currently, in the European automotive industry, fluorinated fuel tanks have been widely adopted. In California, USA, pollutant emission control standards for small general-purpose machinery have been established, and fluorination treatment of plastic fuel tanks has been made one of the important measures.
